Be Kind Rewind: The Trailer

Hope it's more Eternal Sunshine than The Science of Sleep, but I'd be lying if I said I haven't watched this, like 10 times since yesterday. I've already annoyed my coworkers with Jables' rendition of the Ghostbusters theme song. Also, nice to see Mia Farrow working again. Check it out, just like we all did in those pre-Netflix days.

Ah, this trailer brings back memories of my days working in a pre-DVD video store world. And it looks like one Michel Gondry movie that even my mother might like!

Yes, those days had all different issues than our current DVD times. Instead of warning customers not to leave the tapes in their cars, now the employees fret over the idiots who use their rented DVDs as drink coasters. Progress!

Also, I wonder when this is taking place. It has to be sometime 1999 or after, since there's a Blast From the Past poster up in the store, but then the trailer references Rush Hour 2, so it must be post-2001. But then it couldn't be too long after that, because a lot of stores started getting rid of tapes to make room for DVDs around that time. Hm...

Maybe the movie exists in some strange Gondry World where VHS still rules the day. When I left Tower Video in NOLA back in 2001 we were already dumping most of our tapes.
